Pre-Launching Issues
Post-Launching Issues (Related to Java Web Start and Browsers)
Symptoms:
Nothing happens after clicking on Launch Application Button.
Solution:
Perform Clean State Procedure as follows:
Clear Web Browser Cache
- For Internet Explorer 4.x and Up
- Click on "Tools" menu from the Internet Explorer menubar
- Select "Internet Options"
- Select tab - "General"
- Click on "Delete Files" button in the "Temporary Internet files" section
- For Netscape 4.x and Up
- Click on "Edit" from the Netscape menubar
- Select "Preferences"
- Expand "Advanced" menu by clicking the triangle sign
- Click on "Cache"
- Click on "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache" buttons.
- For Mozilla 1.x and Up
- Click on "Edit" from Mozilla menubar
- Select "Preferences"
- Expand "Advanced" menu by clicking the plus sign
- Click "Cache"
- Click on "Clear Cache" button.

Clearing Java Web Start Cache
- Double click on Java Web Start icon on the desktop to open the Java Web Start Application Manager.
- From the application manager's menu select "Edit" --> "Preferences".
- Select tab - "Advance". Click on "Clear Folder" button.
- When prompted, click "Yes" button to clear the Applications Folder.

Kill all Ghost Processes
- Open the Task Manager.
- Select "Processes" tab
- End all of the following processes - javaw.exe, java.exe or javaws.exe.
Reboot computer
Disable Hyperthreading at BIOS Level
- If your processor supports HyperThreading (HT) Technology, disable it from the BIOS
- To disable HT in the BIOS, press F2 key while the computer is starting. Keep pressing "tab" on your keyboard until the word "HyperThreading" is highlighted. Select the option "Turn Off" or "Disable".

Symptoms:
While launching HDBStat! from web browser "Downloading launch.jnlp" dialog box appears.
Reason:
JNLP- MIME type issue. |

Solution:
Click on Netscape Edit menu --> Preferences (choose Navigator) --> Helper Applications.

In the "New Type" window, fill the following information:
- Description of type: JNLP
- File extension: jnlp
- MIME type: application/x-java-jnlp-file
- Application to use: C:\ProgramFiles\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\javaws\javaws.exe (or your path to javaws.exe)
- Click OK button on both New Type and Preferences box.

Symptoms:
While launching HDBStat! from Firefox web browser "Opening
launch.jnlp" dialog box appears.
Reason:
JNLP- MIME type issue. |

| Select option "open with" and browse for javaws.exe (Java Webstart executable) |

| Select option "DO this automatically for files like this from now on," to enable automatic MIME type (JNLP) to application (javaws) mapping. |

| Click on Firefox Tools menu->Option->Downloads navigation window. Upon successful JNLP-javaws mapping, File Types section will reflect its plugin |

Symptoms:
Failed to load Resource/Unable to launch HDBStat
Reason:
Click on Details button in the Download Error dialog box. |

Configure Firewall Proxy if your computer is connected through firewall
- Double click on Java Web Start icon on the desktop to open the Java Web Start Application Manager.
- From the application manager's menu select Edit --> Preferences.
- Select tab - "General". Select the "Manual Proxies" radio button.
- Provide the correct HTTP Proxy/HTTP Port information in the text fields.
- Click on "OK" button and re-launch HDBStat! from the web.

Reinstall JRE
If the above 2 steps fail to resolve this problem, reinstall JRE 1.4.x or higher |
